Idita Read Update

posted Apr 12, 2012, 6:09 AM by Iris Meehan
All 4 teams are creeping closer to Nome, the finish line of the Idita Read! This week we had 6 more students cross the finish line. Congratulations to Christina Closson, Parker Murphy, Nicholas Jacobs, Joshua Wedge, Saige Goodwin and Lily Cook! We have several students who are less than 50 minutes away from the finish. Students can continue to turn in reading sheets through Wednesday, April 25th.

As of April 10th the standings are:
1st place: Crazy Canines with 34,487 minutes
2nd place: Turbo Dogs with 33,261 minutes
3rd place: MDI Mushers with 27,457 minutes
4th place: Rocking Readers with 27,444 minutes

This week we had two special visitors in the Library. Cirra, the mascot for the purple team, was here to read with the top 6 readers of the purple team from week 3. We also were fortunate to have Nada Lepper visit our school and meet in small groups with all the students. Nada is a teacher at the Brooksville Elementary School. It is a small school with just 65 students PreK-Grade 8. In both 2005 and 2011 Nada took groups of students to the Iditarod in Alaska. The students raised all the money necessary for both trips. Students were treated to videos and stories of life behind the scenes at the Iditarod. We sincerely thank Nada for taking the time to share this adventure with our students!
