This week we received exciting news from the Portland Sea Dogs. Out of the 60+ schools across the state who participated in the Slugger Challenge, Tremont had the third highest percentage of students who completed it. As a result they sent us a check for $250. Well done Slugger Readers!

The Idita Read 2013 has officially ended. As they were last year, our students were amazing. We had 69 students who made it to Nome Alaska by reading 998 minutes or more. As a school our students read 134,504 minutes. The final standings for the teams were:

1st Place: Red Team with 38,481 minutes
2nd Place: Green Team with 34,634 minutes
3rd Place: Blue Team with 32,386 minutes
4th Place: Purple Team with 29,003 minutes

For having reached Nome first, the Read Team will be having a pizza party in the near future. On Tuesday of this week 48 "mushers" were treated to an ice cream social. Two weeks prior to vacation students were told they would be part of a surprise if they turned in their time sheet with a dog picture attached. Those attending the social were excited for the sundaes, but also excited because each of them made their sundae in a plastic dog dish they could keep.

On Friday, May 3rd there will be a final Idita Read assembly in the gym at 2:00 p.m. The Downeast Dog Scouts will be on hand to pass out medals to the students who will be crossing the finish line. Those 69 students will each be waved through the finish line by a group of local law enforcement officers from 6 different agencies. The Dog Scouts will then present each student who participated with a new book and certificate. Cake and ice cream will end the assembly.
