Veteran's Day Activities

posted Oct 21, 2013, 6:47 AM by Iris Meehan
This year we have decided to expand our Veteran’s Day Celebration to help our students in Grades 1-4 not only understand the meaning of Veteran’s Day, but to also help them honor the veterans that live around them every day. It has been a long standing goal of Tremont School to help children understand that while many men and women fought and died for our country, there are many other men and women still alive who proudly served our country. We would like our students to learn to honor and respect these very important people each and every day.

We are asking students in Grades 1-4 to “Adopt a Veteran” from now through Veteran’s Day. That veteran will be invited to 3 events (they do not need to attend all of them) and will be asked to answer 5 questions. Veterans will be invited to visit the classroom of their adopter on a day of their choice for as long as they would like to stay. Veterans will be invited to eat lunch with their adopter on either November 5th or November 6th. Veterans will be invited to attend our Veteran’s Day Assembly on Friday, November 8 at 2 p.m. where they will be introduced and honored. The answers to the 5 questions will be compiled into a booklet that will be available for all those attending the assembly to take with them. The public is invited to attend the assembly.

If you have questions, or you need the name of a veteran for your child to adopt, please call Mrs. Dow at 244-7777 ext 2221.
