NO SCHOOL - February Break: 2/17/2025 - 2/21/2025
Dear TCS Friends and Families,
What do you get when you have a full moon, a snow storm, Spirit Week and Valentine's Day all the week before a school vacation? An amazing, fun filled week at TCS! Thank you to all the parents/guardians who helped to make the week flow smoothly and who helped a child participate in celebrations, activities and daily themes! What could have been a wild week, was a wonderful way to head into the break on a very positive note.
Here are some recent highlights from TCS:
Grades 2, 3, 4 and many parents went ice fishing on Wednesday.
Guest speaker, Tatia Bauer, spoke with middle school scientists about a marsh restoration project with Maine Coast Heritage Trust. Middle school scientists are also helping to revive composting at TCS and have been teaching younger students about the process.
Spirit Week was a HUGE success!
Valentine's Day festivities took place and lots of love was felt by all.
PreK read Ice Cream Man by Glenda Armand and Kim Freeman. They followed the recipe from the text to make their own delicious ice cream treat.
The middle school Jazz District Festival took place on Monday evening. The TCS Jazz Band sounded great and made us very proud!
Mrs. Pajor-Meddaugh's 4th graders learned to snowshoe at the Kelley Farm Preserve.
Mrs. Stanley's kindergarten held a Learning Celebration on Monday evening to showcase all of the impressive growth students are making.
We made sure that students heard how much they are loved throughout the day on Friday. We hope you are able to enjoy some extra time with your child next week. Thank you for supporting your child to be the best they can be and for sharing them with us. It is a privilege to be so involved in their lives and to help each one learn and grow.

February Break: 2/17/2025 - 2/21/2025
Good evening Wildcat Families,
This week is Spirit Week at TCS. It should make for a fun week. Friday is Valentine's Day. Please check with your child's teacher to understand what celebrations might be happening and before sending any snacks/treats to school.
AOS 91 school websites are changing to a new platform. You will be able to access TCS's website the same way, but it will have a fresh new look! The newsletter will also change with the new platform, but will be delivered to the Tremont community in much the same way. This change will begin after the February break.
Here are a few highlights from the past week at TCS:
PreK-2 participated in Global Play Day. This event is designed to support children learning through play and practicing skills that naturally come up through play such as conflict resolution, sharing, collaboration, compromise, building connections with peers and more.
The Pine Tree Flyers performed at TCS for PreK-8th grade. Older buddies were great role models for their younger buddies. Everyone participated in a whole school dance to beautiful traditional New England music.
Tremetic boys and girls A basketball teams closed out a strong season. Unfortunately both teams were defeated in hard fought semi-final games. Many thanks to all of this seasons coaches and to TCS athletic directors Natalia Pajor-Meddaugh and Noelle Ellis.
Next week, February 17-21, is February Vacation. If you're family is leaving for vacation before the end of the week, please check in with your child's teacher regarding missed instruction and be sure to notify Susan McIsaac in the main office. Click here to access the --> Extended Absence Form
Thank you for your continued support and for sharing your amazing children with us. Have a wonderful week!

Good evening TCS Friends and Families,
Big excitement last week as the girls and boys Tremetic A-Teams defeated Lamoine, moving on to the semi-finals early this week. Winners of the semi-finals will advance to the championship games on Thursday evening at MDIHS.
On Tuesday morning, TCS PreK-8th graders will assemble for a concert with traditional New England quartet, The Pine Tree Flyers! Students will experience a concert, instrument show and school-wide dance workshop with older and younger buddies. You can listen to The Pine Tree Flyers here, if you wish! If you would like to join us for this opportunity, please let us know in advance by contacting the main office at (207)244-7777.
Valentine's Day is coming up next week. Many classes will hold classroom celebrations. If you are considering sending a Valentine's Day treat or snack to school with a child, contact your child's teacher a few days in advance to ensure that what you provide will be able to be served. Thank you!
Here are a few highlights from this past week at TCS:
In Mrs. Prentice's 7-8 science classes students conduct a climate vulnerability assessment with the Gulf of Maine Research Institute as a part of their Municipal Climate Action Program. They also put on hip waders and boots to venture into the salt marsh, collecting water samples, data and making observations. 5th and 6th grade scientists engaged in a hands-on activity with NOAA fishery biologist Max Tritt, using the Stream Smart Table Demonstration to explore how human activity affects Atlantic salmon and other sea-run fish, as well as engineering strategies to improve their pathways.
1st grade filled their classroom gem jar by demonstrating scholarly behavior, kindness and doing extra reading and math games at home. They earned PJ Day and watched Inside Out as part of learning to regulate and be in control of emotions.
Kindergarten is gearing up for a learning Celebration. They painted habitat scenes for their animal studies and will be adding drawings and labels to their animal life cycles.
3rd grade filled their classroom jar with cotton balls again. This happens over time as students demonstrate scholarly behavior and live up to their classroom promises to be learners, help others to learn, be safe and take care of one another. As a result of their hard work they voted for optional pjs, beginning to view Shiloh after having completed reading the book and a snack.
2nd graders made their own dough and used it to construct individual models of landforms.
In Art with Mrs. Raymond, students are learning to use the pottery wheel and weave baskets. 7th & 8th grade students are learning the art of breaking and fusing glass.
Mrs. Adler's 7-8A math achieved their Habits of Work goal and chose an ice cream treat.
Have a wonderful week and thank you for supporting the important work that takes place at TCS!

Week of January 5, 2025
Sunday, January 5, 2025
Dear TCS Families & Friends,
We had a wonderful return to school on Thursday and Friday! Many classes spent time reflecting on 2024 and setting goals for 2025.
This week, 8th graders will attend the Tremont School Board meeting on Tuesday evening to present their proposal for their end of year class trip. Students and parents will be able to leave the meeting following the presentation and the school board's decision. Students and parents should arrive for the start of the meeting at 5:30pm.
Tremont PTO met on Thursday afternoon. Thank you to those who were able to attend and brought great ideas and enthusiasm! Stay tuned for information about an upcoming Family Movie Night and if the weather cooperates, PTO hopes to hold a community sledding event in February. Amanda Daley was recently nominated as PTO President. Congratulations! Volunteers, community members or PTO members can contact her with suggestions or questions at amanda.daley@mdirss.org.
Temperatures will be cold this week and wind will make the feels like temperatures lower. In Maine we know the weather can throw a lot at us and having the right gear makes all of the difference. Please help to ensure that your child has warm layers and gear to be comfortable both inside and outside.
Wednesdays, beginning Jan. 8th and running through Feb. 12th from 3:00 - 4:00pm Ms. Lear will be offering yoga to 4th and 5th graders. Email Ms. Lear at mlear@mdirss.org to sign up your child.
With gratitude,
Jandrea True, Principal

It's been a while since we have given an update on where things are at with any potential construction project at TCS. Early this fall we applied to the state in hopes of receiving grant funding for a possible construction project. Last week, a team of four from the state of Maine visited and toured TCS to collect information regarding the building and programming challenges. The information is intended to help in determining whether or not TCS would be eligible for any funding. 90+ schools in the state submitted applications. It is a long and competetive process. To clarify where TCS is at with consideration of a project, we are still brainstorming and problem solving. Any decision to move forward would require voter approval. We will continue to update you with any new information.
If you are planning a family trip this holiday season, please communicate well in advance with your child's teacher and create an educational plan for missed instruction and assignments. We want to work together to minimize any impact on learning. Please read the Extended Absence Letter and work with your child(ren) and their teachers if your family will be traveling soon. Thank you! TCS Extended Absence Letter and Form
We look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow. Have a wonderful week!
Warmly,
Jandrea True, Principal
